FAA Awards $12 Million for Drone Research as Industry Focuses on Safe Integration
On 5 October 2026, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced $12 million in awards to 19 companies for drone research and testing. The projects are being supported through the agency’s Unmanned Aircraft Systems Broad Agency Announcement program and involve work with FAA-designated UAS test sites.
The announced projects cover a range of integration challenges, including aircraft detection, drone visibility, communications, identity verification and coordination between drone and conventional air traffic systems. The FAA says the work is intended to provide data about operational challenges and support the safe integration of unmanned aircraft into the national airspace system.
For drone operators and equipment buyers, the announcement highlights the importance of evaluating an aircraft as a complete system. Flight planning, communications, operator procedures and applicable airspace requirements all matter alongside the aircraft itself. Equipment selection should be based on the intended mission, confirmed configuration and local rules, rather than assuming that one product is suitable for every operation.
ArcoSky offers a range of FPV aircraft for customers evaluating their equipment options. The AS131PRO 13-inch FPV drone is one example in the product range. Buyers should confirm their required configuration and the rules applicable to their planned operation before use.
